The road follows the creek up to Lundy Lake, then continues to a trailhead at the end of the canyon, where a trail passes beaver ponds and aspen on the way to a series of waterfalls. A few miles north, Conway Summit, the highest point on US 395 at 8,143 feet, is known for some of the most accessible fall color in California.
Scenic drive
US 395 climbs north from Mono Lake to Conway Summit past aspen groves, with views back over the lake, and Virginia Lakes Road branches west near the summit toward a chain of high lakes. To the south, US 395 passes Lee Vining and the turnoff for the June Lake Loop.
