This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit Leaves.com (the “Site”), which is owned and operated by Top Notch Domains, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), and how it is used. By using the Site, you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Use.
The short version
The Site has no accounts, sign-ups, or forms, and we don’t ask for your name or email address. We use a visitor statistics service that records how the Site is used. Searches and “Use my location” lookups on the foliage map are handled in your own browser.
Searches and your location
When you search for a city or ZIP code on the foliage map, the Site downloads its location list to your browser and finds the match there; your search isn’t sent to us as you type. When you use “Use my location,” your browser asks for your permission, and your coordinates are used in your browser to show the forecast. They are not sent to us.
If you search from a box on another page of the Site, your search words become part of the web address of the page that opens (for example, “?q=” followed by your search). Like any page address, it may be recorded by our visitor statistics service and hosting provider.
Visitor statistics
We use StatCounter to understand how people use the Site. StatCounter automatically collects information such as your IP address, approximate location based on that address, browser and device type, operating system, screen size, the page that referred you, the pages you view, and when you view them. StatCounter may use cookies to recognize returning visitors. StatCounter’s handling of this information is governed by its own privacy policy.
Hosting and fonts
Like most websites, the Site’s hosting provider may automatically log requests to the Site, including IP addresses, browser information, pages requested, and times, for security and operations. The Site’s typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser information under Google’s own policies.
Contacting us
If you contact us through the Top Notch Domains website, your message is handled through that website. We use the information you send, such as your name, email address, and message, to respond to you, and we may keep it for our records.
How we use information
We use the information described above to operate and improve the Site, understand how it is used, keep it secure and prevent abuse, respond to messages, comply with the law, and protect our rights and the rights of others.
How information is shared
We don’t sell your personal information. Information may be shared with service providers that help us run the Site, such as our visitor statistics service and hosting provider; when we believe disclosure is required by law or legal process; to protect our rights, property, or safety or those of others; and as part of a sale or transfer of the Site, its domain name, or Top Notch Domains, LLC, in which case the information may be transferred to the new owner.
Cookies and your choices
You can set your browser to block or delete cookies, and many content blockers prevent visitor statistics services from loading. The foliage map needs JavaScript to work, but the rest of the Site can be read without it. The Site does not respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.
How long information is kept
We keep information for as long as it is useful for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law. Third-party services keep information according to their own policies.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information, but no website or internet transmission is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee the security of any information.
Children
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Visitors outside the United States
The Site is operated from the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to or deletion of personal information about you. To make a request, contact us, and we’ll respond as required by applicable law. We may need to verify your request before acting on it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy by posting a new version on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the updated policy.
