Helen is an Alpine-style village on the Chattahoochee River in the north Georgia mountains. Just north of town, Unicoi State Park has a lake and wooded trails, and a short paved trail leads to Anna Ruby Falls, a pair of falls side by side. To the north, Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest peak, has an observation deck with views over the mountains of four states.

The Russell–Brasstown Scenic Byway makes a loop of about 41 miles through the Chattahoochee National Forest north of Helen, climbing over mountain gaps on the Richard B. Russell Scenic Highway, with a spur up to Brasstown Bald.
