The best-known view in Camden is from the top of Mount Battie in Camden Hills State Park, looking down over Camden Harbor, Penobscot Bay, and its islands, the view that inspired Edna St. Vincent Millay’s poem “Renascence.” A road and several trails lead to the summit. Nearby, Mount Megunticook is the highest of the Camden Hills, and on its western side, Maiden Cliff, marked by a white cross, looks out over Megunticook Lake. In the village, the harbor itself is framed by the colorful hills rising right behind it.
Scenic drive
Route 1 follows the coast through Camden, north toward Lincolnville and Belfast and south toward Rockport and Rockland, with glimpses of Penobscot Bay between the hills. For an inland loop, Route 52 leaves Camden and runs along the shore of Megunticook Lake, beneath Maiden Cliff, before heading north through the hills.
