Lost Maples State Natural Area protects an unusual stand of bigtooth maples in the canyons of the Sabinal River, in the Texas Hill Country, where they turn red, orange, and gold in November. Trails follow the river and its side canyons past clear ponds and limestone cliffs, and the East and West trails climb to overlooks above the canyon.
Scenic drive
Ranch roads 335, 336, and 337, known together as the Twisted Sisters, wind through the canyons and ridges of the Hill Country west of Lost Maples, with steep climbs and sweeping views. Lost Maples itself is on Ranch Road 187, north of Vanderpool.
