Lenox sits in the heart of the Berkshires, surrounded by rolling wooded hills. Right from the center of town, Kennedy Park has about 15 miles of trails on old carriage roads, with an overlook across the Housatonic River valley and Parsons Marsh. West of town, Olivia’s Overlook on Yokun Ridge looks out over the Stockbridge Bowl, a lake ringed by hills. East of Lenox, October Mountain State Forest is the largest state forest in Massachusetts. Farther south, Monument Mountain in Great Barrington has a summit with long views down the valley, and Bash Bish Falls, in the state’s far southwest corner, is the tallest waterfall in Massachusetts.
Scenic drive
Route 7 runs south from Lenox through Stockbridge to Great Barrington, following the Housatonic River valley and passing Monument Mountain along the way. From Lee, just east of Lenox, the Jacob’s Ladder Trail (Route 20) climbs east through the hills. To see the northern Berkshires, head north on Route 7 toward Williamstown and Mount Greylock.
